Cultural Shipping
Architecture BA

With Hamburg’s port being  slowly moved further away from the city and with nothing being left behind, a rich culture is being lost. The aim of this project was not revive the culture but to spread its worth through a tactile manner that will give the citizens of Hamburg a taste of their society before heavy consumerism became a driving force in the city.

Using three systems; spatial categorisation, creating volumetric links to the context and developing programmatic organisation throughout the building. The project was an exercise in combatting the commercial take over that is occurring throughout Hamburg, with architecture that intentionally creates a juxtaposition with the rest of Hamburg’s new developments.

The re-constructed chimney stack will build in the centre of the historic Hamburg skyline rather than transport as rumble outside the city limits.
