(Un)Finished - The Royal College of Art’s London Design Festival Exhibition
2020
Following the COVID pandemic in 2020, the students of Design products from the Royal College of Art self funded a final degree show, in doing so I was able to help build a narrative of lost time and lost connection that was strongly felt by the graduating students.
Leaning into this idea we wanted to present a different kind of final show that was more involved in the process of making than in just the final product. In turn this lead to a two part show where one side was a traditional displayed show but the other was a more participatory display where one of the students was tasked to create an object each day from objects on site.
The design of the show came from this workshop ideology, looking into simple but high capable techniques used in workshop to store materials and tools, I designed a free standing display system that uses guided shelves to create a easily interchangeable display wall.
The material pallet of pine, galvanised steel, plywood and Forbo made for a highly cost effective show that made self funding the project possible. Together, myself and Rowan Vyvyn built the frames offsite and pieced it altogether on site in just under 2 weeks.
