Wainwright Writing Den
Architecture
2018
A small writing den for a journalist looking for an outside office space, built under permitted development the small 2.5m squared uses a simple timber construction with a Douglas fir skin and custom plywood shingles.
The interior was designed after a close 1:1 interview and practical prototyping stage. To be used throughout the year the writing den is focused around the client’s needs, with all the fittings having been designed or sourced to suit all her requirements. With the glass roof allowing sunlight to fill the space with the front windows looking out over her London garden.
The practical form is loosely based off the Sissinghurst Garden Castle Writing Den used by Virginia Woolf, with the Wainwright Writing Den being a modern nod to a classic garden retreat.
